Of the hundreds of images Webb created along the coastlines of African nations, many of his portside photographs emphasize the human labor implicated by the profiles of monumental ships and piles of goods. In this photograph of a port in Sudan, workers dwarfed by sacks of materials work deftly to secure them to the rigging of a crane in bright sunlight.
