The use of precious metals, especially gold and silver for personal ornament and decorative objects has a long history in India. Silver utensils during the Mughal period were produced for an affluent middle class that treasured finely crafted objects. This silver tray is decorated overall with a classic arabesque motif as well as a continuous band of Arabic script.
