Webb’s humanistic approach to photography included a respect for his subjects, emphasizing a connection between the people on each side of his lens. In this portrait of a woman holding a small child, he allows the shadow of a roofline to bisect the top-right corner of the image, as if it were mounted with a photo corner in a family album.
