Hermioni

Ceramic stoneware, wood fired sculpture. The piece resembles a bunny sitting in a relaxed and optimistic position. The back legs stretching out in front of the front, and ears are up high with alert and awareness.

Hitch

A bird on 3 wheels. The body is a white enameled bowl screwed to a bulk film canister that has a grey marbled enamel coffee lid attached for its rump. There are vintage wrought iron handles attached for rump feathers. The head is a small oil can with the beak being the oil can stem. The wings are a metal spatula.

It is a 77 inch long bare branch of a tree that has been "folded" 31 times.

This sculpture was made from an oak burl, the burl was cut to fit into a 12 inch cube. The flat cut surfaces were polished while the natural surfaces were charred with a torch, all surfaces were then oiled to bring out the grain pattern.

Silence

Vintage and antique French and Czech glass seed beads woven with thread around a real deer skull. Displayed on a repurposed barn wood board with barbed wire. This is bead work, not mosaic work where beads are glued to a strata. One bead at a time is woven, creating what I call a "glass skin," an intricately woven fabric of beads. With this technique, an insanely beautiful texture is produced.

Ghost House 1

This steel cube has a large swoosh cut out of the side, starting at two opposite corners and cutting a large arc deep into the cube.  Inside the cube is a ball suspended as if it is riding through the cut.  The sculpture is made of steel, and textured in patterns radiating around the cut. A Dom and her Sub

A dragon with feathered wings lying down with front feet crossed. Coloration is iridescent teals and blues within a swirl of clear and black resin.

Labradorite Szerense Dragon 

Two leaves sprinkled in discolored yellowing plaster and wrapped in plastic wrap. They stack on top of one another to explore the space in-between and the tension in the plastic. The images bright white lighting makes it seem as though it could be a part of a museums archival collection.

relapse prevention

A bronze sculpture created from a live model who held the pose where her body created the shape of an "O" for three hours.  People typically exclaim "Oh!" when they see the sculpture and understand how it was made.

The Arrogance of Shame

A sculpture of a red, dog-like creature with dark blue hatch-marks imitating fur along its entire body. The creature's snout is long, and its mouth is open, revealing yellow teeth and a lolling dark blue tongue. It's body is pierced by arrows and there are dark blue tears falling from its yellow eyes.

Hung Out to Dry

Two intertwined abstracted non-binary human figures twist about each other in a cork screw pattern. Starting from a wood pedestal, the polished yellow-red bronze geometric feeling base flows upwards through very loosely delineated legs, torsos, arms and shoulders. The piece culminates in tilted heads wrapped about each other face to face in a kiss. Though the piece is of two bodies it is hard to tell where one starts and the other ends as you follow the rotating pattern up and down the work.

The Embrace

A pink baby head with elephant pacifier sits on top of a toy-like and wheeled base.  An extra large pacifier becomes the handle for the pull-string.

Margot's Big Boo-Boo Ride

A darkened copper form with smooth, almost reflective surface started as a perfect square of sheet metal that was forced into a doming-mold that was too small for it, causing a partially domed-effect while also creating folds and crimps in the metal where it responded to the impact. 

FORCED/FORCE individual

Tongue-in-cheek reimagining of an ancient sculpture I saw at Mia with my face superimposed as Serapis. The collage is overlaid on the marble sculpture, with a regal purple backdrop, and digital "paint" added over original detail.

A miniature pastel bathroom scene sits in a shadow box with a mini pink toilet, sitting on checkerboard tile, with a pastel purple toilet matt.  There is a mirror above the sink with a written sign saying "you can do this!!!"  The sink counter has a miniature soap and hand towel.  There is a shelf above the toilet with mini bathroom items such as toilet paper, a tooth brush and bath towels, all in pastel tones.  Next door to the bathroom is a living room with two pastel purple couches sitting around a baby blue coffee table that has an overflowing miniature ash tray and a house plant.  The couches are facing a pink tv that is sitting on a white modern TV stand.  There is a framed large painting on the wall that features abstract faces, checkerboard patterns, and a backround of warmer tones.  All of the furniture sits on a baby pink felt rug.  There is a decorative abstract lamp in the corner.

We Are All In This Together

The sculpture consists of twenty thrrr 4” x 4” slices of sheet metal cut in a graduated curve along one edge that are welded together to create a relief sculpture. 

The sculpture rests upon a canvas patch with the artist’s logo. 

The sculpture is roughly cut and welded, and shows slight signs of tarnish and rust as well as evidence of the physicality of it’s creation and construction.

My Levitating House

A painting of a cast sculpture.  The sculpture is of a man shooting a bow and arrow, reaching towards the sky (the arms have been removed from the cast).  It is in stark lighting, with a mysterious dark atmosphere surrounding the subject.  A ray of light illuminates the torso and knee in golden yellow.

2020 In A Clamshell

This sculpture is a happy character standing with his arms stretched out, wearing a colorful costume.  He is having a Eureka moment and his eyes are popping out of his head.  His upper clothing is geometric squares and diamond shapes in green, black, and blue.  HIs face and hands are yellow.  His lower body is shaped like a jester costume in orange and red.  He is wearing a necklace and two bracelets on his shoulders.  He has many colorful buttons on his costume.  His head is shaped strangely and his eyebrows are big and golden.  His shoes are fun and are red and aqua.

The Pattern Juggler

This wall sculpture portrays two black beetles rolling a distinctly orange, prominent politician's head instead of a ball of dung.

Baby Driver

A triangle shaped basket-like vessel made of strips of paper that are hand painted individual colors of purple, mint green and copper.  The strips are woven using a multi-layered hexagonal weave. Peeled grapevine is then attached to the rim with waxed linen thread so the grapevine pierces the piece in 2 places.

Waiting

HPX:  Hyperbolic Paraboloid Extension, An Anticlastic Brass Form

This 3-D brass sculpture started as a flat sheet of 18-gauge brass.  To turn it into a hyperbolic paraboloid or anticlasitc form, the corners are forged over curved stakes along the North-South and East-West axes in opposing directions.  Convex curve along one axis, concave along the other.

The "X" of the HPX describes the way the hammer moves metal from the center of the square outward.  The edges are pulled and stretched and eventually extend enough to meet at diagonally opposite points.

This double curvature shaped shell appears in architecture as a saddle roof.  Despite its rather modern, artistic appearance, this anticlastic shape is highly practical for a roof because it cannot hold water.  To make a synclastic type of form, on the other hand, the axes are moved in the same direction like a bowl or roof gutter.  And, yes, synclastic forms can hold water.

HPX: Hyperbolic Paraboloid Extension

Architects' Java With Visitor

A sculpted bust of a veiled woman made from wool that looks like marble. The wind appears to be blowing the fabric against her face and the rest is billowing away from her. The veil reveals beneath the illusion of translucent folds half of her face is classicly beautiful and the other half is her skull. 

When The Veil Is Torn Away

The papier-mâché sculpture is the round head of a Pomeranian dog. He has a warm tan colored face accented with friendly facial features of big round eyes with eyelashes, a round nose and sweet mouth and freckles on the cheeks. The face is surrounded with soft butter yellow and white yarn.

eye to eye

This is my self-portrait (my head and neck are visible). It is made in low relief with the image projecting slightly out towards the picture plane. It is very textural as I built the sculpture using handmade paper pulp from recycled paper. It is all white, with some areas of grey and off white.

Broken Promise

A blue/green oriental style dragon coils around a deep blue ball shaped jar.  Each scale, talon and detail carefully sculpted and applied one at a time. The frill around the face, the horns and teeth are covered in 22k gold. It holds in it's mouth another round ball covered in iridescent glaze.  This "pearl" mimics the ball the dragon encircles. The blue ball jar is also highlighted by some iridescence.  The jar comes open dividing the dragon just before the front legs.

A mini sculpture of a dark, glistening, yet malnourished claws of a dystopian creature, that fills the room with an eerie aroma.

Earth from outer space is represented on birch plywood with acrylic and distemper paints in earth and cloud colors.  Gouged with a router across this landscape are random curved lines, spray painted aluminum, representing pipelines and channels of industrial waste which are destroying the natural environment.  Upper right of this earth is curved where it meets outer space.

Into the Garden: compassion

A small wood sculpture of a mushroom which is coarsely cut  out of a branch which still has  some bark on it giving the end product a rich coloration  which runs the gamut between dark and light brown.

A frame made of cardboard and knick knacks painted black with an icon-like image of my late grandmother in the center mounted on velvet and haloed in gold just below the locket she gave me draped over the shrine's frame.

A wet felted wool sculpture of a bust. The face is white with a mix of natural colored wool and cotton gauze felted together and the eyes are stitched in ecru and light green. The hair is voluminous, made of long scraps of fabric hand dyed with natural dyes. The head sits on a recycled bedspring.

The Divine Mother

A mermaid with blue eyes and long blonde hair holding a shell up to her ear. She has a blue tail covered in white lace. She is wearing pearls and blue shells. A decorated white and blue lace top. She sits atop a gray rock with a blue swan floating by her amidst water lilies. 

Blue Calling

A ceramic painting with abstract shapes that are white, pink, and orange on a pink panel. An orange textured shaped is underneath two white shapes and wraps around the left side of the painting. 

Invaders

This photograph depicts a sculpture built of a dinner table and bowl of apples and lemons cut in half and mounted to a wall. Atop the surface of the table can be seen the word "Connect" painted chaotically in repetition. Between the halves is a collection of household multimedia (computer, tv, vas/DVD player, DVDs, CDs, magazines). There is a telephone hanging off the hook and the shadow of an individual gets lost into the cluttered objects in the middle of the split table.

Please Hang Up and Dial Again

A needle felted anthropomorphic sculpture of a raven wearing a gold crown, inside the raven's body a miniature scene of a swan under a night sky.

The Story Within

A 1.5 scale stylized human ear cast in dull orange bronze. The metal has been buffed to a shine and discolored from contact in some places, and left raw in others. The surface has marks from the sculpting tools, and the shape is a mix of naturalistic curves and roughly faceted angles.

Untitled

This was inspired by a self portrait taken at the Franconia Sculpture Park inside a tall, secluded structure. In this moment everything seem to go silent and the higher I looked the brighter it got. While looking up in that small space the sun shined through and illuminated everything inside. So confined but feeling freer than I have in a long time. 

Confined Freedom

The outline of a hulking figure seated in a landscape turns their head as if disturbed from thought. Black acrylic paint on found white rag, referencing "Giant Seated in a Landscape" an aquatint print attributed to Francisco de Goya c. 1818. Underneath the image, 5 black deflated balloons are pinned to the wall.

Giant

A non-objective ceramic form rendering the artists perception of a human relation. Two glossy green arches opposing each other in direction and size sit on top of a matte pink bumpy base. The color and form play at duality.

Relations

An assemblage of a formal ornate gold frame juxtaposed with a central object of small interlocking plastic pieces forming a bright yellow figure, green 3-dimensional mohawk hair, green eyes, red mouth, white hands, brown and black 3-dimensional shoes on a formal gray background. Figure faces outward with arms outstretched.

Kimono

Based in the tradition of the Philosophical Instrument this work, a Conundra Object, is based upon an extraction of Kepler’s solar system model and a musing of what existed beyond his platonic “Celestial Spheres”.  Kepler's chrome sphere is supported by hand machined brass and copper supports with a plumb bob centered on space, flanked by illuminated display spheres under glass, circled by a rotating planetoid form, all mounted to a box base of various hardwoods.  

Urania Incognita

This carved book sculpture, "biblio-excavation", is created by removing all the excess text leaving only selected imagery. Images are backed with acid free cardstock to make them more ridged. The text block is sealed shut so only the cover opens. This creates both an easy way to display the sculpture as well as a simple storage solution since the work can be shut and housed with the rest of your readable library.
