Imagine if someone could paint with hand cut glass.  This is a stained glass mosaic of a handful of bright red peonies, reaching upwards towards sunlight, underneath a stormy iridescent gray sky.  The stems of the flowers are long, flat pieces of glass, as well as some pieces of glass turned on their sides that catch the light just so.

My submission to this decades’ 4 MIA Foot in the Door is a 12x12 in board of Minnehaha Falls circa 1906. Inspired by an old hand tinted postcard and done in mixed media, including tissue paper, string and the plastic screens of a flatscreen T.V. which have been clipped and painted and spaced withscrapbooking spacers. When looked at in person, the T.V. screen parts have differing effects, some Mirror, some magnify and some opaque that change with the order of the layering. This helps the viewer see movement in the waterfall and creek below. The Creek almost seems to flow at the viewer. The falls might leap out , and the people stand out on either side of he wooden bridge.

Collaged screen printed paper parts and paint that resemble a chaotic fruit bowl scene. 

Fruit Bowl Interrupted 

Black and white photo of snow on rocks taken with a Hassleblad film camera. After developing and printing in the darkroom I drew over the photo with black and white alcohol inks. The ink interacted chemically with the photo to create an abstract image. Shapes are variable, textures and layers are created with shades ranging from white-gray-black with traces of blue and magenta.

It Takes Tou-Can

An abstract painting using a limited palette of lime green, cadmium orange, warm and cool blues and white. And a touch of black for interest. There is lots of mark making, scratching in the paint, stamping and glazing over to create layers and depth. It was a blast to paint!

This was inspired by a self portrait taken at the Franconia Sculpture Park inside a tall, secluded structure. In this moment everything seem to go silent and the higher I looked the brighter it got. While looking up in that small space the sun shined through and illuminated everything inside. So confined but feeling freer than I have in a long time.

The Chinese text: End of WWII, Sept 9, 1945 Hong Kong,  which was occupied by Japan for four years. Solo picture was artist who was nourished with eggs from chickens raised on rooftops while many had very restricted diet.  Sausages were stuffed with horse or dog meat.

This is a paper collage with writing. There are two pictures of a man and a woman teaching a disco dance, and between those, a third picture of a young boy skateboarding. The narrative is a true story involving me and both of those things.
