The four main subjects of the painting, a Monarch butterfly, a fish, a flower and a cedar waxwing each occupy about a quarter of the design, coming together and supporting each other at the center.

Interconnected V: The Arb

This was created during a particularly scary and exhausting heartbreak. I chose to paint in my favorite colors that undulate and ripple amongst each other, gold flashes here and there. These colors became familiar as I grew to fall in love with painting again. This piece is a colorful one, a cheerful-looking peek into how I felt while under a spell. Palisades aren’t beautiful but when you’ve only heard the word of course they sound like something lavish. But palisades are used as makeshift defenses during war: sharpened wood or iron stakes driven into the ground, blocking off travel. Some of the best defenses resemble characteristics we all wish we had. All we need is a little flash gear to avert the inquisitive gaze long enough to shift comfortably. On the other hand we’re dazzled by it for split second ourselves, even when the gold leaf is thin and flaking. 

Guilty Gilded Palisades

A painting of waves ebbing and flowing in the background. Your eye first travels to red hand that covers the survivor’s mouth while dripping in blood along with the black eye and tear drop. the cycles of abuse are violent and spontaneous, but yet can be loving and intoxicating.

This is an abstract watercolor painting in mostly browns and blues with some red and orange. The shapes could be fish, or a crowd of anything, massed together, as seen from above perhaps.

The Multitude

Splatter is a study of color and negative white space. The corners are framed with pink squares and hearts, while the center of the painting fills with color in a lively explosion of warm tones and metallics.

It Will Work Itself Out

Dead Red-bellied Woodpecker in snow. I came across this bird in Minneapolis after a heavy snowfall. It is a species that has recently migrated north in warmer months but cannot winter in this climate. However due to the recent extended warm Autumns it remained in Minnesota and froze to death and fell from the tree branch into the snow where I found it.
