Lavender Dream

An early morning final contemplation of entering a cold lake and the necessary disturbance to the new spider webs spun overnight.

Cape Dorset artist Kenojuak Ashevak was an amazing graphic artist who lived from 1927 to 2013. This study is an attempt to learn about and understand one of her works, "Floral Passage," by exploring her composition, proportion, use of color, and use of lines and dots.

A role model to millions 

The first layer of brown is a broken leather belt buckle in the center and scatters broken wicker coaster pieces.  All this sits on antique linen rough stipes on hand-made paper which includes sand. All this sits on browned journaled stories from my uncle.  The journal continues on the frame.  The wood frame edges have sand. 

Wounded

A mermaid floating in the waters of her life.  Although the digital image of an encaustic piece are limited so rarely show the translucency and depth of beeswax art... zoom in and you may find surprises beneath of top layer of your perception! Look for the metallic shine around her, look for the images embedded in the golden glow above her, and find the depth in the waves that support her! Peace.

Floating Mermaid

Ten alternating paint marks of lavender, russet, and blue are dripping down the canvas. Each mark has been transformed into the body of a person of varying age, gender, and ethnicity, standing shoulder to shoulder. The drips down the canvas are their legs and reflections.
