A photograph of the interior of the Blue Grotto, a small sea cave on the Italian island of Capri that opens to the waters of the Mediterranean.  The cave is pitch black, save for a bright ray of daylight shining in through a small entrance hole caused by a gap in the rock; there is the suggestion of a small boat floating on the water on the other side of the entrance.  The light streaming in illuminates the water inside the grotto, causing it to glow with a brilliant, rich blue tone that shimmers in a way that seems otherworldly.  The image is somewhat abstract, its subject being the beautiful blue that nature has created.

I get by without a car

I arranged and photographed my spoon collection as part of a 100-day creativity project that I undertook this year. Some of the most rewarding and enjoyable projects from that time were curating and capturing collections. The images will last forever but the creative exercise of artistically arranging objects was fleeting. I actually didn't realize that I had such a large spoon collection until I started looking for spoons to photograph after uncovering a few unusual ones in the depths of my kitchen drawers. Collections abound.

Tragedy & Hope

Photograph:  On a ground of royal purple silk, a white tulle wedding veil lies loosely covering the right side of the image.  Its flowery lace edge snakes down the centre of the image.  Purple shows through the white tulle.  Atop these layered fabrics, is positioned a pair of vintage phylacteries -- worn leather boxes, each with its own flat leather strap wound and folded neatly around it.  The boxes' paper labels are virtually worn away.  Only the labels' bright red edges remain, with a hint of black-printed border design.  On a diagonal from each other, one phylactery box sits back on the purple silk, left of centre; its mate is nestled forward into the white lace, right of centre.

And I will betroth you to me for eternity.
