Standard of Beauty 

This is a collage was from a series on that began with carefully dried daisy petals, which were tricky to work with and glue down onto the Color-aid paper. The background is a an Epson archival inkjet printed digital pattern drawn in Adobe Illustrator. A postage stamp and other papers were chosen to complement the color palette and content, and the text (species name) was typewritten on Rives BFK paper.

Can't Stop Playing That Jazzy Music

Last year, father Al Landes passed away from pancreatic cancer. He had a pile of tools in his garage and he was the kind of man that could fix anything. The six months from the time of his diagnosis was a nightmare as we watched him slowly deteriorate sitting in his recliner. The wrenches and tools represent  conventional medicine and the unconventional ways I tried to save him. His dog Dixie never left his side. Generally  I am an artist that paints in vivid exploding colors. This work is rendered in desaturated color because the color left me during this time. 

I Tried To Fix Him Until His Last Breath

The mixed media canvas illustrates the sheer joy.  possibilities and high hopes for a first born son whose life was cut very short as a very young man.

The Lovers, The Dreamers, and Me

This carved book sculpture, "biblio-excavation", is created by removing all the excess text leaving only selected imagery. Images are backed with acid free cardstock to make them more ridged. The text block is sealed shut so only the cover opens. This creates both an easy way to display the sculpture as well as a simple storage solution since the work can be shut and housed with the rest of your readable library.
