Still Life for the Anthropocene

This bowl was created from a casting (round plastic pail) blank and turned on the lathe. The unique characteristics of this bowl is the encapsulation of the Lichen which grew on the Diamond willow tree..

A darkened copper form with smooth, almost reflective surface started as a perfect square of sheet metal that was forced into a doming-mold that was too small for it, causing a partially domed-effect while also creating folds and crimps in the metal where it responded to the impact.

This  sculpture of an angel was created with things found in my studio during COVID lockdown. She has sheet music on her arms and book pages for her skirt. Handmade lace doilies complete her skirt. Her wings came from a bird that perched in the Christmas tree. She holds an antique stick pin that acts as a pinwheel ."Hope" signifies that we can find beauty and fun wherever and whatever the circumstances of life.

Painting with Glass

The sculpture consists of twenty thrrr 4” x 4” slices of sheet metal cut in a graduated curve along one edge that are welded together to create a relief sculpture. 

The sculpture rests upon a canvas patch with the artist’s logo. 

The sculpture is roughly cut and welded, and shows slight signs of tarnish and rust as well as evidence of the physicality of it’s creation and construction. 

Relief #2 (Test)

This is an image of a frog in foliage, sculpted and cast in iron, roughly a square format. The frog is inspired by a frog living near a pond in my neighborhood. The pond-and I expect the frog, is drying up slowly year by year due to development and climate change. Frog is just hanging on.  

Hanging On

A relief made from toys and doll parts. The Emperor is centered and is a larger doll head.  The Emperor is surrounded by his warriors ( toy soldiers ) as well as his captors ( baby dolls ). Two 'my little pony' dolls are symbols of the Emperor's power.  The toys are all attached to a piece of plywood.   The piece is completely sprayed in one grey color.

Cast aluminum abstract sculpture partially painted with red, silver and white ink. "Formation" evokes the feeling of a naturally occuring and unusual gelogical formation.

A small Tea House made of vertical sticks of driftwood on green base.  The windows are covered with tracing paper and each has a Japanese symbol on it.  The roof is made from small rectangles of birchbark which are cut to appear like  wooden shingles.
