This expressionist clay chalice abstract to ancient chalice form. It's physical base is handbuilt and angular, holding a wheel thrown and altered vessel the size of a wine glass. The white stoneware shows through in places that are not covered with a melted ash glaze over a second glaze that ranges from matt orange to glossy blue. It could be as satisfying in your hand as it is for your eyes.

A pink baby head with elephant pacifier sits on top of a toy-like and wheeled base.  An extra large pacifier becomes the handle for the pull-string.

A sculpted ceramic mask of a rabbit with exaggerated and eerily human characteristics, including bloodshot eyes, flaring nostrils, and large yellowing front teeth. 

Rabbit Mask #1

A ceramic teapot with a straight spout. The body of the pot is is shaped like an alien space ship with chattering (a form of carving) along the outer edge of the pot. There is a simple bamboo handle attached at the top, for ease of use. The glaze on the teapot is a deep tan with teal and green splotches all over.

A soft alpaca made of red clay standing on 4 long triangular legs and a long triangular neck. the fur texture is made of swirls that have spikes coming out. the animal looks stoic and is embellished with blue, black and green glaze. it looks very enticing to touch.

A shiny, smooth, palm sized celadon blue-green ceramic clam object, with a spot of black carbon captured in its glaze, rests upon a small draped mound of seaweed knitted using narrow black linen paper yarn, all poised upon an inverted wood bento box.

Hamaguri

This is a hand thrown platter with a hand drawn image of a cow head on it with a gold halo around it.The Halo is done in luster so it is very shiny and metallic in contrast to the black and white image of the cow and border. Around the border of the platter are clover plants. The cow is a holstein cow, black and white spotted and the style of drawing is a kind of cross hatched etching sort of look.

Continuous Maze Pattern: This object is a slipcast ceramic egg with a wax-resist design written in beeswax using a traditional Kistka tool for making Pysanky eggs. The patterns employed are maze, labyrinth and weaving designs meant to be contemplated as visual metaphors for the complexity we see before us now and finding a path to the other side.

Ceramic piece made from slabs of clay, with lots of negative space. Glazed with yellows, orange, green, and black.

Flopsis

The piece is a thrown and altered ceramic vase. There's a wide thin horizontal lip similar to a hat rim. Below the rim is a broad shoulder that narrows down to the base and foot of the vase. On the front body there is an asymmetrical cross where the vase was hit which bi-secs the body and includes and folds down the rim in the front. This adds some unique interest points.

The Idea

A ceramic painting with abstract shapes that are white, pink, and orange on a pink panel. An orange textured shaped is underneath two white shapes and wraps around the left side of the painting. 

Invaders

Dark, gestural hand thrown bottle that was fired with wood in an anagama style kiln. This bottle is naturally glazed with melted wood ash.

A saturated red balaclava mask sits on a blank white backdrop. The mask is stretched giving the form a large open mouth and eyes.

Ceramic ink well type shape, small holes pierce through the top half. Long elegant iron-like scrolls extend up on the left side. Finished with a white washed type terra sigillata. 

Bud Vase

A blue/green oriental style dragon coils around a deep blue ball shaped jar.  Each scale, talon and detail carefully sculpted and applied one at a time. The frill around the face, the horns and teeth are covered in 22k gold. It holds in it's mouth another round ball covered in iridescent glaze.  This "pearl" mimics the ball the dragon encircles. The blue ball jar is also highlighted by some iridescence.  The jar comes open dividing the dragon just before the front legs.
