Facing the Day

While staying in a rented house in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico I drew and painted these wonderful great-tailed grackles. They came everyday to our pool to drink and bathe. Plus they fascinated me because of all there many calls we'd hear every morning. I have done a series of them walking, flying, stretching, sneaking up to pieces of food left on outdoor restaurant tables.

A wild horse is running across the natural flecked paper. The horse is composed of quick dabs of black ink with some detailing. The two red artist's chops, calligraphy and her english signature add to the composition.

The image is a side profile portrait of a woman's head and some of her neck. Her eyes are closed, (long lashes touch her face) somewhat enigmatically - it is not clear if she is sad, in thought, or accepting of a situation, or merely striking a pose. her nose is set low, and petite, right above her mouth. She could be in her 30s or 40s. Her face has very few lines, her lips are closed. Her hair is short, ending at her jaw line in a curl. Her hair has texture marking throughout, implying shadow or color and a fine or medium thickness. Part of her neckline is visable. This work is done in graphite on paper.

An alien, nunchaku in hand, practices for life in his dojo. His brightly colored world constantly revolving and renewing, reminding him that it's womb to tomb to ping-pong zoom with a mouthful of semantic minutiae in-between.
