Desert Lake

A large colorful heart covers most of the painting with a small bird on top of it. The word love is written on the bird. Inside the heard are stenciled circles with four words inside them: Peace, Kindness, Hope, and Grace.

Lead With Love

An illustration of three woman in a forest huddled around a ritual knife. It is starting to snow. One of the women is looking at the viewer as if they are witnessing something they should not. The woman have long wild hair and the knife is dark with something. The art style is sketchy and painterly, an eerie, hazy red-black and yellow-green.

I approach the collage as a painting not a mere assembly of pictures.  As I collect materials, they seem to connect individually or in groups. I begin to see the materials interact as I arrange colors and shapes, and discovering the form and the space created between them. Each added element will build on the previous one by changing, adding, or even result in eliminating the other components which many times were the original motivating pieces. You must allow the work to evolve and transform until the work seems to emerge from the complex contradictions or similitude, and multiplicity of the forms, edges, textures, shapes, space and even unrelated content.

It is a baby monkey dressed in a suit with suspenders.  Colorful and bright baby blue eyes.  A white button down shirt with suspenders.  The definition of monkey is off to the side and the word baby is colored with colored pencils jumping off the page in color.

The image is based on a photograph of my elderly mother.  I've added a textural background with collaged paper and floral fabric elements to the square artwork.

Hello Butterfly

This is my self-portrait (my head and neck are visible). It is made in low relief with the image projecting slightly out towards the picture plane. It is very textural as I built the sculpture using handmade paper pulp from recycled paper. It is all white, with some areas of grey and off white.

Ride Off Into the Sunset (detail)

A former Big Mouth Billy Bass is transformed into a 3-dimensional false wooden plaque with wood grain made of actual grains (quinoa) and a mounted crappie fish, also made of crops in the distinctive black and yellow pattern of a crappie fish (corn, wild rice, canola, and other seeds and grains). Former bass fins have been replaced with crappie shaped fins. The plaque has an identifying sign just under the fish that is a pun: Croppie. This piece won a blue ribbon at the 2019 Minnesota State Fair in the Seed and Plant Craft Objects category of the Crop Art competition.
