Dismissing the tradition of delicate, decorative porcelain figurines, Double Grandmother becomes a monumental homage to the strength of both women and the elderly. Frey celebrates middle-class America in her love of and use of what she calls "flea market figures." To Frey, the use of large figures, kitsch and the stereotype reflect and commemorate American culture.
