Yamaguchi Bidō is a contemporary Noh mask carver. He creates traditional Noh masks such as these, as well as masks based on Western paintings, like the Girl with the Pearl Earring. This character is Kasshiki, a young man or child who announces mealtime in Chan (Jp: Zen) Buddhist temples. His youth is indicated by his dimpled cheeks and bangs shorn in the form of a ginkgo leaf.
