Instead of porcupine quills or metal elements, spherical and tubular beads cover more than half the surface area of this basket. The artist strategically exposed woven components of the basket in yellow and purple linen thread, in coordination with the beaded design.

Elaine Small taught art privately and in a public high school. She lived in Kansas and Missouri throughout her very long life.
