Frances Greenman belonged to the first generation of female artists in Minnesota. She was also a highly respected local art critic for the Star Tribune and a professor at what is now MCAD. Although very prolific as a portraitist, her still-life paintings are rarer. Among her more famous portrait sitters were actresses Mary Pickford and Dolores Del Rio.
