The Central African Lunda people currently live on both sides of the border between the south of the Democratic Republic of Congo and northwestern Angola. Their empire, which flourished between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, in the past dominated a much larger area, and as a result their material culture shows many signs of extensive borrowing from neighboring populations.
