Japanese potters produced mold-made porcelain figurines in considerable quantities for export to foreign markets. Such objects, illustrating the complicated hairstyles, sumptuous robes, and delicate gestures of Japanese beauties catered to the European fascination with the exotic Orient. The profusely decorated robes of these figures make them among the most sensational of all Japanese porcelains.
