In the 1920's Picasso developed a spare outline style of drawing, a rebirth of Neoclassical styles based on the drawings that decorate ancient Greek vases. The uniform line produced by the etching needle proved ideal for such drawings and opened an especially prolific era in Picasso's career as a printmaker.
