The bianco-sopra-bianco, or white-on-white border employs lace-like designs of white enamel color on top of the white porcelain body, creating a subtle raised design. This technique is derived from European glass decoration beginning in the 16th century and was taught to the Chinese decorators in the mid-eighteenth century.
