The service to which this plate belongs was made for Prince Pignatelli of Naples, a close relative of Antonius Pignatelli, elected Pope Innocent XII in 1691. In May of 2006, the Institute acquired an oil portrait of another member of this prominent European family, the Comtesse d'Egmont Pignatelli, painted in 1763.
