Of the four shipwrecks salvaged by Captain Michael Hatcher, the Geldermalsen has shed the most light on the Chinese Export porcelain trade. Not only did this ship yield the greatest quantity of porcelain (140,000 pieces), but its contents can be compared with billing records, which survive in the archives of the Dutch East India Company.
