Unlike the more traditional style of desk and bookcase with a slant front, this example has a drawer that pulls out to reveal filing compartments and a writing surface. The berry rosettes crowning the broken pediment and the delicate diamond inlay on the center of the cornice were popular design motifs in the Salem, Massachusetts area.
