Distinguished by its size, grain pattern, and beautifully restrained hardware, this book cabinet would have held books, stationary and writing implements necessary to a scholar. The handle indicates that it was intended to transport these materials out-of-doors when necessary. Reading and writing outside was a common literati pursuit.
