Amphora, late 7th-8th century

Unknown artist, expand_more

The showy magnificence of light-bodied wares covered with splashed san cai glazes became hallmarks of the early Tang dynasty. This amphora exhibits a Hellenistic shape which relates it to the extensive trade contacts that China enjoyed with Central Asia and the Middle East during the seventh and eighth centuries.
