Cornelius Johannesz. Liefrinck had a way with rocks, exquisitely rendering their crags and colors. Here the landscape painter has elevated a slice of everyday life to a scene of rustic beauty. From the beached boat, fishermen are hauling the day’s catch in baskets, perhaps to the cool interior of the cave at the base of the granite cliff.
