This pair of bottles exemplifies the high, technical standards of the imperial workshops. Bearing Ch'ien lung imperial marks on the bottoms, the pictorial subject matter is drawn from classical literature which, along with popular opera, provided decorative figural scenes for carved lacquer, overglaze porcelain, textiles, and ivory.
