Malayer Rug, early 18th century

Malayer is located near the Hamadan and Sarouk rug weaving centers in Northern Iran. Weaving there was done by hand and often governed by families, of which many had Turkish ancestry. Malayer rugs are very collectible today and have been since the nineteenth century.
