Woodblock print; ink and color on paperexpand_more
Gift of Sue Y.S. Kimm and Seymour Gruffermanexpand_more 2019.78.76
This print is part of a series of over 20 with focus on ‘Soil.’ Since 1959, Hagiwara printed the paper on both sides, thus forcing the pigment through the paper as if he would be dying it. Since this special technique was very laborious and time-consuming, he abandoned it in 1963.
