The central coat of arms are of Hamond, and the service was probably ordered by Sir Andrew Hamond, who was Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia and was created a baronet in 1783. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has an identical hot water plate, which was also formerly in the collection of Helena Woolworth McCann, whose foundation named for her Long Island home -- Winfield -- gave this example to the museum.
