If Things Could Talk features notes, sketches, ticket stubs, receipts, floor plans, and photographs that British artist and illustrator David Tremlett assembled from his travels through India. Each of Tremlett’s black-and-white illustrations is accompanied by the artist’s journal-like prose, which combines observations and free association, an intriguing method of representing “place” from the perspective of the outsider.
