Gift of Elizabeth, Julie, and Catherine Andrus in memory of John and Marion Andrusexpand_more 2015.93.109
In depicting Abraham’s heavenly guests (Genesis 18:2-10), Georg Pencz took the unusual step of having a divine being touch Abraham, illustrating the Protestant idea of God’s presence in everyday life. The scene also reminded viewers of faith rewarded, because the angels tell Abraham that he and his aged wife, Sarah, seen in the doorway, will be given a son.
