This woman was originally paired with a print of a similarly gesturing man. That pendant left no doubt about the erotic associations of these jugs and cup. Although mores were changing, women at this time were still seen as morally weak and lustful. A concealed hand could signify condemnation and ruin, perhaps warning viewers to lead a virtuous life.
