German artisans relied on ornamental prints to decorate everything from candlesticks to beer steins. These winged putti, struggling with armor that’s sprouting stems, ended up on a fancy iron trunk lock preserved in Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum.

Earlier provenances have been gathered, but further research will increase our knowledge of their histories.
